Mr. Treg Marcellus is in his tenth year at Theodore Roosevelt High School as Director of Bands and is in his eighteenth year of teaching in Iowa. He directs the Wind Symphony, Jazz II, co-directs the marching band, and teaches techniques classes, independent study, and lessons. Mr. Marcellus previously taught at Prairie High School and Middle School in Cedar Rapids for five years and Oxford Junction Schools for three years.
A native of Humboldt, IA, Mr. Marcellus graduated with a Bachelor of Music Degree in music education and euphonium performance from the University of Iowa in 1991, and received his Master of Arts in Teaching from Coe College in 1997. He also has completed post graduate work from The University of Iowa, Illinois State University, and Drake University. Under his direction the band at Roosevelt has doubled in size and has received consistent Division I superior ratings at State Large Group Contest, State Marching Band Contest, State Jazz, and at other concert, marching, and jazz band festivals since 1999. His jazz bands have participated at the Iowa Jazz Championships 5 times and has won many contests around Iowa, Illinois, Florida, and California. His concert bands have also won 1st place at the Musicfest Contest in Orlando, FL in 1997 & 2001, 1st place and the overall sweepstakes award at the Heritage Music Festival in Los Angeles, CA in 2003, and 1st Place at Festival Disney in Orlando in 2007.
Mr. Marcellus is an active member of the Iowa Bandmasters Association and Past-President of the South Central Iowa Bandmasters Association. Others include The International Association of Jazz Educators, Fine Arts Department Chair at Roosevelt High School, Chair of the SCIBA High School Honor Band Festival, a member of many committees at Roosevelt and in the Des Moines Public Schools, an advisor and board member for “The Iowa Ambassadors of Music”, and is a 2001 and 2005 member of “Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers”. He is a twenty-one year member of the Iowa Army National Guard in which he spent six years as a Forward Observer in the HHC 1/194 Field Artillery and now holds the rank of Staff Sergeant in the 34th Army Band in Fairfield, IA. He and his lovely wife Carla have two children, Colton who plays trombone at Merrill, and Kaylie who is playing oboe and attends Hanawalt.

Mr. Dan Stecker is in his forth year at Roosevelt High School as Assistant Band Director and his 24rd year of teaching overall. Mr. Stecker directs Jazz I, Concert Band, and co-directs the Rough Rider Marching Band. He also teaches 7th grade Brass and directs the 8th grade band at Merrill Middle School. Before coming to Roosevelt, Mr. Stecker taught at Southeast Polk HS, Indianola HS, Carlisle HS, and Central R-3 High School in Flat River, Missouri.
A native of Bonaparte, Iowa, Mr. Stecker went to Harmony High School and graduated with a Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Northeast Missouri State University (now known as Truman State) in 1982. Over the past 23 years Mr. Stecker’s bands have received numerous awards, 1st place finishes, and Division I ratings at festivals and contests throughout the Midwest. Mr. Stecker was the recipient of the “Golden Apple” teaching award in 1995. In 1996, his Indianola Jazz Band was selected for the great honor to perform at the Iowa Bandmasters Conference. During the past year, Mr. Stecker served as President of the South Central Iowa Bandmasters Association.
Mr. Stecker is an active member of the Iowa Bandmasters Association, the South Central Iowa Bandmasters Association, and the International Association of Jazz Educators. Dan and his wife Pat have 4 daughters Cory, Katie, Cassie, and Kylee and 3 grandchildren, Mackenzie, Timothy and Lauren.
